How I ‘received wind’, was late for work, and smelled like pickles
I have been having a sore neck for a couple days now but this morning while I was taking a shower, suddenly the pain spiked and it was so severe that I almost vomited.
I was dragging myself out of the shower to get ready for work as my Aiyi asked me what is wrong with me. I told her my neck really hurts, she took a split second look and proclaimed:
Ni shou feng le — you have received wind.
I was not in the mood for conversation, especially of this type, as I could hardly move. But my Aiyi persisted and insisted that not only have I just shou’d some feng but I need to ba-huo-guanr right away. At that point she basically blocked my way out of the apartment, and due to the pain I was going through I could not walk past her.
So I sat down in the living room while the Aiyi was looking through the Kitchen cupboards for a suitable receptacle to perform the fire cupping. Finally she settled on a jar and emptied it out.
Within 20 seconds I had a flaming hot empty jar of pickles with burning paper in it sucking the bejesus out of my shoulder.
My Aiyi kept on explaining how the fire and smoke are taking back the wind I have received 10 minutes earlier , and how I have to remain with a big jar of pickles stuck to my lower neck and shoulder for at least 30 minutes.
The good news is, the fire cupping actually helped my neck a lot. It increased blood circulation in my neck and shoulder and relaxed the pain, and I came back for another ba-huo-guanr session during lunch.
The bad news is, I have two black and blue circles on my shoulder and neck…
So an Aiyi that cleans, cooks, and does the ol’ ba-huo-guanr for only 10 kuai an hour is a good deal right?
